I'm Elliot Schwartz, a third year philosophy PhD Student at the CUNY Graduate Center with a concentration in cognitive science. I work on the philosophy of cognitive science,  language and mind. My research focuses on the interface between language and general cognition. More specifically, I'm interested in how empirical work in cognitive science and psychology can help lift idealizing assumptions in semantics, pragmatics and the philosophy of language. I currently have projects on polysemy, generics, and discourse referents.

Before coming to the GC, I got an MA in Philosophy at Simon Fraser University and a BA in Cognitive Science and Philosophy from Carleton College.  I'm currently a Graduate Teaching Fellow at Baruch College. I'm also a research affiliate of the Conceptual Development and Social Cognition lab at NYU and the Psycholinguistics *Lab at CUNY.
